Horticulture Excursion
Students will explore how nature inspires innovative solutions through STEM and the principles of biomimicry.
During the first session, students will investigate real-world inventions modelled on natural systems, observe plants and ecosystems firsthand, and identify biological strategies that have evolved over time. These observations will serve as the foundation for students to generate their own nature-inspired ideas.
In the second session, students will become “biomimics,” applying design thinking and STEM skills to address a real-world challenge through a hands-on Design Challenge. This experience will foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Throughout the program, students will deepen their understanding of plant function and form, practice systems thinking, and learn to distinguish between learning from nature and learning about nature. The excursion supports key curriculum areas including Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Critical and Creative Thinking.
