Year 10 Pathways Information Evening
Dear Year 10 Families,
Over the past two weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting with our Year 10 students to begin exploring their potential pathways for 2026. As part of this process, we warmly invite you to attend an upcoming Information Evening on Wednesday, 20 August, from 7 PM to 8 PM, where we will present details about the VCE Vocational Major (VM) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme offered at Melbourne Montessori College.
So far, some students have expressed interest in continuing with the VCE VM pathway, exploring various VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects and career goals. Others are considering the IB pathway and have begun identifying subjects they’d like to pursue. We are now working to shape a program that reflects the cohort’s interests and aspirations.
Following the Information evening, we will schedule individual meetings with you and your child to formally discuss subject selections for next year.
Program Overviews
VCE Vocational Major (VM)
Ideal for students who prefer a practical, hands-on approach to learning and are considering:
* Apprenticeships or traineeships
* TAFE or other VET programs
* Employment after school
* University via TAFE or special entry programs
VM students participate in a VET course one day per week and may also engage in work placements. The remaining days are spent at MMC, focusing on core skills in numeracy, literacy, personal development, and work-related competencies. Upon completion, students receive both a VET certificate and a VCE VM certificate.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
Designed for students aiming for:
* University or higher education in Australia or abroad
* A rigorous, academically enriching experience
* Growth as independent, globally minded thinkers
The IB suits students who demonstrate strong academic progress in multiple subjects and are motivated, organised, and engaged learners. Completion of the IB results in an internationally recognised diploma and an Australian ATAR score.
Learning Support
Both pathways offer support for students with documented learning needs, focusing on well-being and curriculum access. However, it’s important to note that this support cannot fully bridge significant academic gaps.
We look forward to sharing more details and answering your questions on Wednesday, 20 August. Thank you for your ongoing support as we guide your child through this exciting next step.
